Welcome to my journey across Japan, where I explored iconic landmarks from the bustling city of Tokyo to the historic beauty of Himeji. Join me as we visit Tokyo Tower, experience the vibrant Shibuya crossing, pay homage to the faithful Hachiko statue, and marvel at the majestic Himeji Castle.
Arrival in Japan: A New Adventure
Upon my arrival to Narita, Japan, I steped off the plane, I was greeted multiple signage that varied from traditional to fun and were welcoming and inviting. “Welcome to Japan.” The bustling atmosphere of the airport was tempered by the calm and organized signage directing me to immigration and international transfers. The juxtaposition of modernity and tradition, encapsulated in the vibrant image of kimono-clad figures on the welcome sign, perfectly set the tone for my Japanese adventure.
As I followed the signs toward immigration, the immigration process was efficient and the airport staff were polite which made the process smoother. The sense of order and attention to detail, hallmarks of Japanese culture, were immediately apparent. This initial encounter hinted at the rich cultural experiences and meticulous hospitality that awaited me beyond the airport walls. Japan, with its blend of the old and the new, had already begun to weave its magic, promising a journey full of discovery and wonder.
After checking into the Tokyo Inn Hotel in Narita and couldn’t resist capturing the night view from my room! The hotel is conveniently located right next to the airport, whicvh offered a perfect blend of comfort and accessibility.
✨ The lights of the airport runway and the cityscape in the background helped to create a mesmerizing sight. Whether you’re here for a layover or exploring the area, the Tokyo Inn provides a serene and picturesque setting to unwind.
Tokyo Tower: A Sky-High Adventure
My adventure at Tokyo Tower began on the ground floor, where I purchased tickets. After a brief wait in the queue, I was ushered into the elevator. As the elevator ascended, we were treated to stunning 360-degree panoramic views of Tokyo, giving us a preview of the breathtaking sights to come. The following are images of the Tower itself.
Upon reaching the first observation deck, I embarked on a self-paced tour. The 360-degree view from this level offered an incredible vantage point to take in the vast expanse of the city below. It was a perfect opportunity to capture some photos and appreciate the urban sprawl from above.

West View
From the west side of Tokyo Tower, you’ll catch sight of the stunning Shinjuku skyline, renowned for its towering skyscrapers and bustling commercial hubs. On clear days, you can even spot the majestic Mount Fuji in the distance, adding a touch of natural beauty to the urban panorama. The juxtaposition of nature and architecture is truly captivating.
South View
The south view offers a glimpse of Tokyo Bay and the Rainbow Bridge, a strikingly modern structure that lights up beautifully at night. This vantage point also includes the Odaiba district, known for its futuristic buildings and entertainment complexes. Watching the sun set over the bay is a serene experience that contrasts with the city’s high-energy vibe.
North East View
Looking northeast, you can see the historic Asakusa district, home to the iconic Senso-ji Temple. This area is a blend of old and new Tokyo, with traditional markets and the modern Tokyo Skytree piercing the sky. The contrast is a reminder of Tokyo’s rich history and its continuous evolution.
East View
Finally, the east view showcases the heart of Tokyo’s business district, including the towering structures of the Marunouchi and Ginza areas. This perspective highlights the sheer density and dynamism of Tokyo’s economy. By night, this area transforms into a sea of lights, illustrating the city’s unending hustle and bustle.
While going up to the second floor I was to the observation deck, I joined a guided tour. The guide provided fascinating insights into the history of Tokyo Tower, enriching our visit with interesting anecdotes and historical context.
The highlight of our visit was the ascent to the top floor of the tower. From this elevated viewpoint, the city of Tokyo sprawled out beneath us in all its glory, which was a truly unforgettable sight.
Shibuya: Crossing Chaos
Hachiko Statue: Loyalty and Legend
Hachiko, was a loyal Akita dog, who became a symbol of unwavering loyalty and devotion in Japan. His story began in the 1920s when he was adopted by Professor Hidesaburo Ueno, a lecturer at the University of Tokyo. The bond between Hachiko and Professor Ueno grew deep as they developed a routine of daily walks to and from Shibuya Station, where Ueno would catch the train to work.
Tragically, in 1925, Professor Ueno suffered a stroke and passed away while at work, never returning to the station. Despite this sudden loss, Hachiko continued to wait at Shibuya Station every day, faithfully anticipating Ueno’s return. This daily vigil continued for nearly 10 years, capturing the hearts of station-goers and locals who were touched by Hachiko’s unwavering loyalty and commitment.
Hachiko’s story spread through newspapers and word of mouth, becoming a symbol of loyalty and fidelity across Japan. People began to visit Shibuya Station to see Hachiko and offer him food and affection. In 1934, a bronze statue of Hachiko was erected near the station to honor his devotion. The statue depicted him eagerly waiting, gazing towards the station entrance.
Hachiko passed away in 1935, peacefully at the station where he had faithfully waited for so many years. His legacy, however, lives on. The statue became a popular meeting spot and a symbol of loyalty in Japan, inspiring countless stories, books, and even movies. Hachiko’s unwavering loyalty to his owner transcended his lifetime, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of people around the world.

- Shinkansen (Bullet Train): For the ultimate high-speed experience, hop on the Shinkansen. This iconic bullet train will whisk you from Tokyo to Himeji in just under 3 hours, offering unparalleled efficiency and comfort.
If you prefer to take thescenic routes, or go on tours, or a budget-friendly journeys, there is:
- Highway Buses: If you’re looking to save some yen and don’t mind a longer trip, highway buses are a budget-friendly alternative. The journey takes around 9 hours, giving you plenty of time to catch up on reading or enjoy the ever-changing landscape.
Additionally you can fly if you desire:
- Domestic Flights: For those who prefer to fly, there are domestic flights from Tokyo to Kansai International Airport, followed by a local train or bus to Himeji. This option combines the thrill of flying with the charm of a short train ride.

Taking the Shinkansen was like stepping into the future. As the train glided out of Tokyo, I felt a surge of excitement. The sleek, aerodynamic design and plush seating made for a journey that was not only fast but incredibly comfortable. Watching the countryside blur past the window, I was struck by the contrast between the bustling metropolis we left behind and the tranquil, scenic beauty unfolding before me. Each passing moment brought me closer to Himeji Castle, a majestic destination that promises to be as breathtaking as the journey itself.
